Dear Mozilla:
I am very much looking forward to Netscape 5.0. Everybody is excited to see the
new browser. And when it is available at long last as a beta, I will certainly
report any bugs to you (using Netscape 4.61 on Red Hat Linux 6.0). I noticed you
have just released M8. I hope the beta is just around the corner. Please let me
know if that is the case.
I am taking this opportunity to make an URGENT plea for Netscape 5.0 to solve,
if it has not already done so, the critical bug in AUTOMATIC ALPHABETIC Bookmark
Sorting by Name that has prevailed since Netscape 4.0 was first introduced three
years ago. As a registered user of Netscape (PE-2000AD3730157671), I called
Netscape Tech Support and wrote several letters to Netscape's Tech Support site
on the Internet concerning this CRITICAL issue. Nobody listened. Nobody seemed
to care. At any rate, this terrible bug which has essentially rendered your
great Bookmark feature worthless, continues to exist right up till the present
time. I might add that many members of the Netscape mailing list complained
about it, indeed, were outraged by it as I was. Why a great company like
Netscape would go out of its way to shoot itself in the foot by disabling or NOT
fixing this automatic sorting of bookmarks by NAME, the most important criterion
of all, is something that is beyond my comprehension.
In all candor, do you really expect your users to organize their thousands upon
thousands of bookmarks MANUALLY?
I am writing now so as to avert this kind of bookmark catastrophe in Netscape
5.0 (though I cannot for the life of me figure out why this could not have been
fixed years ago. The feature was available in every pre-Netscape 4.x browser).
I very much hope you LISTEN to your users on this issue. Don't you agree that a
browser that does not allow you to automatically organize your bookmarks
alphabetically is not meeting the needs of its users? Even the simplest browser
will let you do that. Why can't Netscape?
Looking forward to Netscape 5.0 at long last. So is the whole Internet.
Thank you very much.
