How do you feel about making an easter egg for xmas and new years to be seen
only for milestone 0.9.7?
I would like to hear, er, read your proposals for this.
I am thinking something simple, but funny, it could be triggered by about:xmas
or something, or it could check if the computer date is 12-25 or 12-31 and call
something.
I think the advantage of a "date check" is that we dont have to include the egg
with the browser, but can be just an "open link to some site" that has the
easter egg, in flash or something

I strongly suggest we include references to squirrelfish (they're the ones that
sunk the kursk you know)

this needs to be in mozilla 0.9.7, setting keyword.
this is also related to user satification, setting nsCatFood

NOT catfood. Do no put keyboards that you dont know what they mean.
catfood is a "serious user satisfaction issue with _netscape_ builds"
This bug is neither about netscape, neither about serious user satisfaction.
This is an enhancement.

Heheh, did I ASK to be ccd? :-) --- Just kidding ---. It might be considered
catfood depending on who you asked :-)
Where's that "META: Interesing bugs" and where's that "Need an easter egg for
Mozilla"?
If we put in an XMAS easter egg, I think we should add Kwanza and Hanukkah. It's
the politically correct thing to do :-)
How about we expand this to a broader scale? We could have an about:Holiday that
would give you links to presentations about different holidays based on what
holidays are coming up in the next few weeks. For instance, Canadians in August
(or whenever) could Choose boxing day and see a little presentation about boxing
day. Perhaps... we could even make it so that the presentations were kept on a
site, and people could add their own. That way we wouldn't have to make them.
Also, then this bug wouldn't be marked invalid if it didn't get in by 0.9.7 or
by christmas.
What do you think?

I'm in favor, but about:holiday should bring up info on the holiday that the
actual day is first. And seeing how most days of the year are various holidays
(some days actually have more than one holiday on them), we might have a lot of
work ahead of us, unless we do the holiday pages one at a time.
Though, this should be Browser - General, shouldn't it? Or somewhere in Browser.

IMHO, we should just do the biggest holidays, but make it so people can submit
more or something.

This bug is just about "december holidays", and just for 0.9.7 since it will be
released around x-mas
I kind of forgot about hanukkah, i really dont know when their holiday is
If someone wants to make a full holiday implementation, please file a new bug
and take it there.
Netdemon, please cc any people that you think it would be appropiate for this
bug.
X-mas is just 12 days from today guys...
My idea for this is kinda like:
if(date=12-25-2001)
window.open("some_url_in_here")
A nice cute, funny, festive webpage in flash comes up...
This check is only to be made at startup
Therefore we need some flash hackers around.
Implementing this easter egg this way would make the code stay the same size,
so no bloat.

There is about 0.1985% chance this will make it in by Xmas if it is even worked on.

I can't think of anything which would scare a developer more than a popup window
timed for a particular date. It reeks of security issues, and would very likely
infuriate a large number of our developers, even if the message had good intentions.

If you change the bug to a general holidays easter egg, then I believe this
would be more widely accepted as a reasonable easter egg. As Xmas is very close,
the possibility of it being implemented before Xmas is slim. Feel free to reopen
and assign it to me if you change it to a general Holidays Easter egg.
Also, I think about:whatever is an overused method of accessing an easter egg.
