to test this properly, you'll need GFX text controls turned on, with code from 8/9/99 9:00pm or later. on Win32 at least, when you type into the image dialog "Image URL" field, it properly enables the "Dimensions" and "Spacing" controls. But if you delete all the text from "Image URL" field, using backspace, del, or select-all del, the controls do not disable.

I think this should work now (though it's based on having a valid image extensions not just text). Marking FIXED.
