From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530 BuildID: 2002053012 Search Messages for text in the body doesn't work when using IMAP Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Search Messages 2.select body criterion for a string you know being present 3.select a folder on IMAP 4.search 5.Nothing returned Actual Results: Nothing Expected Results: Found occurences
Searching body on imap is only available for those messages downloaded locally (for offline use). Not a valid online IMAP search parameter.
Works for me. Stephane, I don't know if it was broken for your build, but with today's build it works (2002070204) (and actually, I never saw it not working). Maybe it depends on the IMAP server features? I use UW-Imap. Laurel, I don't use offline mode. For the newsgroups one can't search in bodies, but for IMAP mail it works fine for me.
Am having the same problem as stephane. Am using Mozilla 1.1. Worked only when mail offline mode was chosen and mail downloaded

WFM 1.2beta 2202101612
Still doesn't work for Build Id : 2002112304:(
WFM trunk build 2002112204 krishna, did you try with a new profile? When you install a new build, do uninstall the previous one?
Yes, tried with a new profile. Am a kind of newbie to this, but this is what I did. 1.Deleted the old profile. 2.Uninstalled the older version od mozilla. 3.Downloaded the a build(ID : 2002112304) and installed it. 4.Configured it to my mail server. 5.Searched for a string that definately is there in the mails. 6.No results turn up. TIA.
Once uninstalled, delete the remaining files (you can keep the plugins directory though). I don't think it will help in your case but there had been bugs because of those leftovers. Another thing that could be helpful to know: what is your IMAP server? I assume the search is usually done on the server side. Maybe your server doesn't support search. And last, look at this document: http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap If provides info to generate a log file of what is going on.
OK, it has generated a pretty long file. Where/what do need to look to check whether my mail server doesn't support this mail search feature?. Now, trying with 1.2 Thanks, kris
Cursor does not enter text box for search text. Both combo boxes are enabled and values are changeable. Failure is both on inbox and local folders.
Maybe the server you are using does not support it. If so, that would violate the specification, which requires this functionality. http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/rfc2060.txt Can you test it on another server? Myrealbox.com could be used for testing, for example.
I *guess* it's a problem with my mail server since am not able to do a search using NS 4.79 as well!. Am behind a firewall and because of Bug #23728 am not able to try using other providers like myrealbox etc.,
That's good news, at least for Mozilla. I guess you could ask your service provider or sys admin to upgrade the server. Reporter, could you try to search your messages for text in the body with IMAP using Netscape 4.x? Does it work? I think Netscape 4.8 is now out, but any of them should work.
