Details

margins and padding on inline elements should *not* effect the line height. This problem, plus another, (I think) is creating a strange effect in http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/Test/current/sec5525b.htm in the example with margin: 0 30px 30px 0. Expect further test cases soon for the problem with *real* inline elements. (That's why I left URL blank.)
