(Whiteboard: [Perf])

The time from clicking on an IMAP message to completion of it's display dropped from 1,5s to 4s - 18s, depending on the msgs (Bugzilla notes are fast (4s), other msgs usually 8s). Results are sometimes variing for a single msgs, too (record 18s). I wasn't able to figure the reason out. (The component is a blind guess, too.) I'm using CVS yesterday, and I didn't see this last week when I worked on bug 16507 (I saw 1,5s most of the time). I suspected, my code was the reason, but this behaviour is independent from the smilie/bold substitution. But it seems dependent from the folder type: The same msgs on Local Mail need only half of the time to display (2s - 4s). But this is still too slow. (In comparision to last week. I didn't test Local mail last week, but I don't think, it was slower than IMAP.)

this is really outside my area. It sounds like a browser or libmime issue. Nothing's changed in the way we load imap messages.

Ok, Rich, can you take a look?
actually, I doubt this has anything to do with Rich. My guess is it's a layout or event proxying issue, probably related to 10762 or 13131. I do know that opening a folder got a lot faster on tuesday,Oct 26th, when I took out the meteors, but message loading still turns on the meteors because it goes through the web shell.

I've seen some pokey behavior on Linux also and I run POP so I don't think this is an IMAP or MIME regression. Just assigning to me and I will recheck when the meteor/progress indicator issue has been fixed. - rhp
