I see this problem most often when reading and deleting lots of mail messages. Eventually, I get in a situation where I end up at the bottom of the thread pane and only one message is in the view. If I delete this message, the scrolling jumps all the way to the very beginning of the thread pane. For instance, if i have 1000 messages and the 1000th message is showing as the only message in the thread pane (I've scrolled to the bottom) and I delete that message, the scrolling takes me all the way back up to message #1.
Similar to a bug filed by mcafee. I'll try to find that one.

it also seems to do this when you drag the scrollbar to position the tree, and then click on any message, I think it's related. Need to figure out why it keeps jumping to the top.
