Dear Mozilla:
[Using Linux-Mandrake 6.1]
We are all very excited about the forthcoming Mozilla Alpha and Netscape 5.0
beta. And we are all aware of the fact that you are literally working around the
clock to get the browser(s) ready for prime time.
I certainly do NOT wish to make your burden even greater. On the other hand,
this may be very easy to fix. I would like to recommend that you replace the
current Cyrillic font used in Russian and Ukrainian with, preferably, a Times or
Times New Roman Cyrillic font or else replace it with the Cyrillic font now used
in Netscape 4.x. The one you have now in Mozilla is not only ugly but makes
reading literally an agony. I think you would understand if you had to read an
English text in that kind of font.
Speaking as a Russian translator, I implore you to please consider replacing
this horrible Cyrillic font with a professional one. The one in Netscape 5.0
would be great.
Please think about it. Listen to your users. We all want the new Mozilla and
Netscape to be professional, powerful browsers that will stop the Evil Empire.
And appearance, in this case, of the font in Linux, is, all things being equal,
an important element of an aesthetically pleasing experience.
Please give us Russian scholars a professional Cyrillic font we can be proud of
and make full use of.
Thank you.

Dear Bugzilla:
I have been trying my best to find the fonts directory in Netscape 4.7
on my Linux-Mandrake system. I have even sent out a message concerning
it to the Mandrake list. Hopefully, someone will help me find the name
of the Cyrillic font in Netscape 4.7 for Linux.
Please take a look at the Russian font used on these two sites (Win 1251
and KOI-8 codes)
http://www.websher.net/sp/kozw.html
http://www.websher.net/sp/koz8.html
The font is identical.
Please do your best to identify the font in question. If I find out the
name, I'll let you know.

Hi Benjamin, I'm about to attach (to this bug report) a list of Cyrillic font
names that I extraced from the xlsfonts output that you sent me. I'd like you
to try them one by one in xfd, using command lines like this:
xfd -fn '-cronyx-times-medium-r-normal--17-120-100-100-p-64-koi8-r' &
And then please tell me which one(s) were ugly, and which one(s) were OK. Thx.

Fixed by adding support for the foundry field and setting the default fonts for
Cyrillic to the cronyx fonts (times, helvetica and courier).

Dear Erik:
Just checked my Russian test web site in Mozilla nightly build of May
25, 2000 (still waiting for M16). The Cyrillic looks great, just like in
Netscape 4.x. Very pleased. All my thanks for a job well done. Hope to
see it in your Netscape Beta 2.
Thanks so much again.
Benjamin
