Are the methods which operate on default prefs doing something which needs to be done for B1? I'm betting not, and pushing the bug out. If I'm mistaken, please correct the target milestone.

Well, I am currently doing the UTF-8 -> Unicode conversion in my own code, so it certainly isn't an emergency, but it would be nice if we could get the conversion done in The Right Place, so that we don't have this extra code all over the place. Whether this means we need to fix this for B1, I don't know. I'll leave that decision to you.
