Details
Saw on Win and Linux builds today
1999-12-15-09 M12
Steps to repro:
1)Exit
Seamonkey mail if you are in by either clicking on the X in the upper
right
corner of Mail, or select File-->Close in the Mail menu.
2)Invoke Mail again by
selecting Tasks-->Mail from Mozilla.
3)When the Mail window comes up, open your
inbox so all your mail shows there.
4)Click once on the "Date" column header to
sort by date.
Expected results: Mail immediately sort by date, with the most
current email
floating to the top of the list. Clicking a second time will sort
with the
oldest email floating to the top to the list.
Actual result: Nothing
happens. If you click again on the Date column, it will
sort properly on the
second click. On subsequent single clicks it will sort
properly.
If clicking on
any *other* column once *first* (which will sort them properly)
the Date column
will sort properly on the first click if it is the next column
clicked on.
For me, it does indeed work on the first click if you let your Inbox finish
loading (completely) before you click on the Date column header. If you click
on it first while the thread pane is loading, the first click is lost/doesn't do
anything.

If this is really a timing issue then marking M18. Will probably eventually
sort by date by default anyway.
The Date column was the only column this occurred on, and it also happened in
other folders like "Sent". It did not matter how long I let it settle, the
status bar would show Document Done and it still behaved this way. It would not
sort descending till the 2nd click after first entering mail.
My instances were such that the inbox opened with some threading and when I
clicked on Date, the earliest dated messages previously hidden within a thread
were popped to the top in a date sort.

OK I think we have a misunderstanding. The first cliick should put the current
email on the bottom. The second should put it on the top.
Oki, so because the default is current email at bottom, first click basically
leaves it that way, and second click floats current email to the top?
In my folders I am not always seeing a date sort on launch as default. So when I
click once on Date I do get a date sort with oldest message at top of thread
pane.

there is no default at the moment. It comes up unsorted. It just so happens
that a lot of the time it works out to be sorted by date. Currently you need
the first click to sort ascending and the second click to sort descending.
I'm going to change this bug to be a reminder that we need a default sort.

Sorry, I was going to mark it invalid but instead decided to change the subject
since someone would just file another bug anyway. Forgot to get rid of invalid
before committing.

I fixed this a while ago. Currently all folders come up sorted by date.
However, I have another bug that says folders should remember their sort and
come up that way the next time they are opened.

Linux (2000-03-03-12 M15)
Win32 (2000-03-03-14 M15)
Mac (2000-03-03-13 M15)
All folders come up sorted by date in the ascending order. After the first
click, the dates sorts decendingly (the most current one is on top.)
