Apparently, currently filter rules apply only to mime headers. It would be
highly desirable to offer additional conditionals as part of the rules.
For instance, whether running filters was started automatically or manually. And
if the former, whether the mail is incoming or outgoing.
The benefit: e.g., one can keep email in an in-box (no automatic filtering)
until answered, then manually filter it to the appropriate local folder for filing.
(Actually, another important non-header-rule would be to select
mail-to-be-filtered on where it is currently residing.)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
no distinction of automatically/manually issued filter runs
Expected Results:
provide optional conditionals automatic/manual in individual filters

I'm confirming this because I'd particularly like to be able to restrict filters
to running only on incoming, or only on already-arrived (after the fact)
messages.
Running filters on outgoing messages (at all) is bug 11039 / bug 180196. This
might be a nice mechanism to set that up.

Filtering based on where the mail is currently residing wouldn't be necessary if
we had per-folder filters as I note in bug 294632. Filtering outgoing messages
would also be solved by per-folder filters; just define filters on your Sent folder.
Filtering mail out of the inbox after it has been handled in some form or
another is already possible using a rule "Status is Replied" OR "Status is
Forwarded" etc...

Differentiating between automatic or manual is bug 183929. If that's the only
scope of this bug, we can dup it. For now I'm marking the dependency.
Depends on: 183929

This would be a nice filter option ie moving sent items to their respective folders. Only as a comment I think Novell Groupwise has such a feature??
