There could be a option that enables Mozilla to check whether a new version of
Mozilla has been released. If there is a new version, Mozilla will notify you
and give you the option to download the latest version.
There should also be a pref to turn off the feature.

An auto-update feature has been under discussion for several years. If you'd like
to help implement one, talk with dougt@netscape.com.

adding beta1 keyword and setting m14 checkpoint.
Putting on PDT+ radar for beta1. We want this for beta!

Cleared the resolution. (Bugzilla no longer supports the idea that an open bug
can have any kind of resolution set.)

Um. This is not a beta 1 priority. We specifically decided weeks ago that
Update Notifications would not be in for beta 1, but would be for beta 2.
Removing beta1 and pdt+
cc'ing leger for tracking purposes.

Kevin,
Looks like we have this bug already for update notifications. Still hoping to
see this in for 0.9. Added Smartupdate to status whiteboard.

No, the Autoupdate bug 88958 is NOT the same as this. Perhaps the "AutoUpdate"
name is confusing (a hold over from the 4.x Mission Control kit), but this bug
is about telling users when a new version is available, that bug is about
network admins being able to force an upgrade remotely on their serfs.

Any movement on this, this would be a great feature to add for both individual
themes, addon's, plugins as well as core system updates.

As a back-end xpinstall issue this was fixed a long time ago, and even used in
Netscape versions ("update notifications"). Firefox went off and did something
else entirely in the front end.
