* TITLE/SUMMARY [PP] Mac - Context menu invocation misinterpreted as a selection * STEPS TO REPRODUCE 0) Launch Apprunner 1) View a web page, e.g, http://www.mozillazine.org 2) Single-click on a word, and really quickly do the next step. 3) Hold the control key down, and click again on the same word. * RESULT - What happened A contextual menu appears *and* the word in question becomes selected. - What was expected I believe that Control key-modified clicks should be ignored by selection. * REGRESSION - Occurs On Mac OS Apprunner (2000011208 Mac OS build) - Doesn't Occur On any other platforms * CONFIGURATIONS TESTED - [Mac] Beige Power Mac G3 (266 MHz PowerPC 750), 96 MB RAM (VM on; 1 MB of VM used), 1024x768 (Thousands of Colors), Mac OS 8.6 - [Win32] Vectra VL (233 MHz P2), 96 MB RAM, 800x600 (True Color), NT 4.0 SP5. - [Linux] Vectra VL (266 MHz P2), 96 MB RAM. Red Hat Linux 6.0 (GNOME).
i might not be understanding this one properly, but afaik, 1. click+control key is currently the only way to bring up the context menu on mac (see bug 18726). 2. even if a word is selected, shouldn't you should still be able to bring up a context menu (eg, to copy the selection)? in other words, why should control+clicks (on mac) be ignored in the first place?
...if the user is holding the control key down when clicking, they're trying to invoke a contextual menu --- not select text. (if you haven't already, follow the steps to reproduce in Mozilla & 4.x, and then drop a line if it doesn't make immediate sense.)
oh, i see now! pls ignore my previous comments...
I believe this is the same bug as #16170 (though this may be a better written bug from QA perspective). The problem seen below is that selection is extended with the control key rather than the command/meta key. Does anyone agree/disagree?
