Details
* TITLE/SUMMARY
[PP] www.hotwired.com: nc_content_4.html frame completely broken in many ways on
Mac
* STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0) Launch Viewer
1) Surf to www.hotwired.com
* RESULT
- What happened
At first glance, the root page of site is *completely* broken on Mac.
At second glance, the root page consists of three frames; two of which render
gracefully, but the third one (http://www.hotwired.com/frontdoor/
nc_content_4.html) is completely broken. There's too much to describe, but here
are some examples:
a. the body text in the middle-of-page column appears appears to be drawn
entirely in the first line of the region (over and over and over on top of
itself. ;)
b. The right-hand column of text is drawn on top of the left-hand column of text.
c. The top quarter of the left-hand column of text isn't even there. It's just
white.
d. The background color of the left-hand column is a lighter color than it
appears on other user agents.
At third glance, the page extensively uses style sheets & Javascript.
- What was expected
Output equivalent to Win32 Viewer user agent.
* REGRESSION
- Occurs On
viewer (1.14.99 optimized build for Mac OS)
viewer (1.13.99 optimized build for Mac OS)
- Doesn't Occur On
viewer (1.14.99 optimized build for Win32 [NT 4, Service Pack 3])
Communicator 4.5 (Mac OS RTM)
- Haven't Checked
viewer (1.13.99 optimized build for Linux --- build is broken)
* CONFIGURATIONS TESTED
- PowerMac 8500/120 (233 Mhz 604e), 64 MB RAM, 1024x768 (16-bit video), Mac OS

Marking as severity=critical. Even though it's not a crash or development
blocker it is one of the top sites.
Reassigning to pierre as it's a core issue and may need to be resolved in Gecko
land. Kick it back if you don't agree and we can find a new owner.

Same problem as test9, I think.
Changed the summary line to "Can't display multiple frames".

Added "(partially fixed)" to the summary line.
Some problems have been fixed with frames, as in test9 or in SlashDot (bug 2369)
but there is still some work with HotWired.

Hey hey hey... another one that got (almost) fixed just by itself.
Hotwired is not as nice as in 4.5 yet (some big pieces are missing in the middle
of the page) but it is so much better that I wonder if they don't have the same
problems on Windows. Eli, could you test it for me? Thanks.

Hey, Pierre ---
Using the 1.21.99 builds on Mac OS vs. Win32 to view www.hotwired.com, the
display problems that occur on Mac OS aren't occuring on the Win32 viewer build.
(The Win32 viewer build displays output identical to that of Communicator 4.5.)
(In particular, the large rectangular regions missions from the middle column
that you note is still taking place Mac OS-only in this build.)
Hope this helps.
