If you shut down a Windows 95/98 or NT system, all currently applications should
gracefully shut themselves down as well. However, Raptor doesn't respond
correctly to the shutdown event, and keeps running; eventually Windows will
prompt the user to force-quit the application.
This is seen in the Jan-14-99 and earlier builds.

Just FYI, the Mac FE behaves similarly

I don't see this problem on unix.

Marking WONTFIX to get the viewer specific bugz off the radar completely (rather
than the old P4 placeholder I was using). Also changed platform to MacOS, since
the final status on this bug was that it was Mac specific, so that it shows up in
my default query.

Reopening as this is now going to be important for beta. This behavior is xplat;
happens on Win32 as well as Mac OS.

Adding "Mac/Win" as this is not a unix problem.
Comment 12•25 years ago
|

I could live without this for beta.

I can't repro the problem on my Mac. Are we sure this is not just a Win32
problem?

Using the 1999092012 build on Mac OS 8.5, here's what happens on my G3:
- Launch apprunner
- Switch to the Finder
- Press the Power key
- Click Shut Down
Result: Apprunner becomes the frontmost app... and that's it. The computer
doesn't shut down and I don't get a warning from the Finder that the app is not
responding.

Oh joy, it looks like it's an issue only with the optimized build of Apprunner on
the Mac

It appears that the AppleEvent code to handle the quit event isn't firing so
reassigning to davidm as he's covering the AE stuff now.

Forking the Windows part of this bug over to:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14807
This bug is now the Mac-only bug, marking so.

fix checked in. Still occasionally crash on quit but that isn't related to this.

I didn't see this fixed in today's (1999110809) build on Mac OS 8.5. Here's what
I did:
- Launch apprunner
- Press the Power key
- Select Restart
Result: Nothing happened. Eventually I quit Apprunner and the OS seemed a bit
confused - when I tried to Restart again I was told that a shutdown or restart
was already in progress. So... I'm reopening this one again. Sorry. If I'm doing
something wrong, please let me know. I'm also changing the QA contact to elig.

Are you using the netscape or mozilla build? I tested using the finders
restart menu items but that should be equivalent to what I did.

I believe I was using the Netscape internal build. I'll double-check tomorrow.

Move this to M12 ...

I just tried out the 15ths mozilla build and it works for me. The netscape build
crashed but that is a know bug if you have installed 4.7 on your system.

This is fixed using the 11.16.99 8:00 AM Mozilla M12 build on Mac OS. (Commercial
build still evidences the crash, covered in another bug, as davidm mentioned.)
Re-opening to Verify as FIXED. Thanks!

In order to be super-anal (cpratt isn't around to do it for me), the scenarios
checked included all cited above, and a few others:
1. Pressing power key, and selecting "Shut Down" while Apprunner was
frontmost app.
2. Pressing power key, and selecting "Restart" while Apprunner was frontmost
app.
3. Switching to Finder, pressing power key, and selecting "Shut Down" while
Apprunner was a background app.
4. Switching to Finder, and selecting "Shut Down" from the File menu while
Apprunner was a background app.

Okay, to be totally hyper-anal, I checked on Mac OS 8.5.1, per cpratt's comment
of checking on OS 8.5. (I had used 8.6 before.)
