Now when we can't use cvs-mirror in conjuction with assorted web applications we need to come up with a new name. Of course we have lxr, bugzilla, bonsai and despot but we have some minor services (like that url source viewer) we perhaps don't want to have own domain name for each. So, we need to come up with new name what we could use with those instead of lounge. Dawn, can you coordinate this? My vote is webtools.mozilla.org. Or what if we change whole things and just start using redirects from www.mozilla.org? Risto Ps. Of course this new name could be used to access bonsai etc too just by saying webtools.mozilla.org/webtools/bonsai/ or just (webtools/bonsai/) but that makes it very hard to move it one day (all redirects etc will be pain).

This sounds like an excellent plan, and webtools.mozilla.org sounds like a good name for it. As far as your PS goes, using redirects seems ideal: they should be easy to chance, not hard, since they'll all be collected in one place. Ie http://webtools.mozilla.org/bonsai/ would be redirected to http://bonsai.mozilla.org/

There is no rush, but when you've created webtools.mozilla.org, could you let me know, so that I can announce the new tool?

I can take this ticket - because there seems to be concencus about the name and no voting or anything needed.

Terry raised very valid point why we shouldn't have redirects: people will bookmark those and then we will be even in deeper trouble with broken links. So, how about doing it as follows: Big services: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ etc. Small services: http://webtools.mozilla.org/servicename/, for example http://webtools.mozilla.org/registry/ If we one day want to move one of the minor services we just need to place redirect then (and keep it there). This way we at least could hide name lounge behind the scene.

Ok, "politically correct" URLs are now http://webtools.mozilla.org/blahblah/ or directly to big services with their hostnames. Don't use names lounge or cvs-mirror in URLs. Reopen the ticket if you have any objections.
