Linux 2000-02-02-14 M14) Problem is still there. Click on Get message, Messenger gets hung up.
Update: On my linux system I can get POP messages using the 2000-02-02-09m14 commercial build. I will check with Fenella to see if we're doing the same thing.
I had a similar problem on 2000.02.02.09. It cleared up when I ran as root, which suggests it might have something to do with temp files being created somewhere where the user doesn't have write privs. May also be related to bug 21596.

OK, I'll look through the pop code and see if someone's creating a temp file where they shouldn't.
I don't see anything obviously wrong in the pop code. Is it possible that your user profile directory is read-only?
My user profile directory is not read-only. But here's something I just noticed: some (long) time after I click on "Get Msg" and nothing happens, I get an alert window saying "Error getting mail password". I don't get a mail password dialog, though.
I re-tested yesterday's afternoon build (Linux 2000-02-02-14 M14). I think the problem had to do with the password dialog. When I un-checked the "Save this value" in the Password dialog, it receives messages. But I also get an alert window saying "Error getting mail password". Very strange!! This is a known bug and Seth is working on it. I have also used today's build (Linux 2000-02-03-08 M14) to retest using the same scenario. POP does receive message. It is the Password dialog issue. Mark this bug worksforme and close it.
