RFE: disable/change Messenger start page w/Edit|Preferences
The most common complaint about Messenger I'm hearing from customers is about
the Messenger Start page. If you have your prefs set to confirm before sending
cookies, it pops up several dialogs. If you are using a slow dialup, it wastes
time downloading the page when it could be downloading messages. The
help.netscape.com technote on how to disable this has only been up a week and
it's already the 28th most requested client technote (was 40-something only a
few days ago) and I fully expect it to be in the top 10 within another week.
We need to put this in Edit|Preferences under the Mail & News section so that
users can disable or change this page without having to edit their preferences
by hand. This should be similar to the setting of the Navigator's home page.
------- Additional Comments From granrose 11/18/98 16:29 -------
This is still by far the most common complaint/request from customers and from
end users via feedback forms and newsgroups (followed closely by users
wanting support for multiple pop accounts in a single profile). The technote
describing how to disable this page is now the 9th most popular tech note on
help.netscape.com for all products, not just client and had over 2800 hits just
in the last 7 days. Bumping to TS2 to raise visibility.

Reassigning to chuang since she's probably doing the prefs dialogs.

Verified as fixed on win32, linux and ppc using the following build:
ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/windows/32bit/x86/2000-01-02-09-M13/sea
monkey32e.exe
ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/unix/linux_glibc/2.2/x86/2000-01-02-09-
M13/netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/macos/8.x/ppc/2000-01-02-08-M13/netscap
e5-mac-M13.sea.bin
I verified that I can a) enable and disable start page, b) change start change
to a different location by typing in a new location (file or url), and c) use
the "Use current page" button to change the start page.
Two separate problem found:
1) the "select file" button on Mac and windows does not put the correct path
information causing the page to fail to load and the folder not to display.
2) the "select file" button brings up the browse dialog on linux but all the
controls appear locked up.
* I will lock seperate bugs on these issues.
2)
