I don't know if this is important or not, but it sounded interesting enough to
record in bugsplat.
Subject: Suggestion for Communicator ~ POP3 for OUTBOUND Mail via XTND XMIT
Date: Sun, 29 Nov 1998 19:47:03 GMT

Howdy, All:
Please excuse me if this is not the appropriate group.
netscape.public.mozilla.wishlist does not appear on my server.
I'd like to suggest that Netscape have the capability to send
email with POP3, via the XTND XMIT command, instead of just using
SMTP.
Reasons are varied, the main one being able to connect to your
home server without dialing in (say, if you were on vacation in
another city, using a friend's account, etc.), yet till being able to
send mail. Many providers do not accept SMTP unless you're dialed in,
so as to limit spam.
So far as I know, only Eudora Pro supports this feature.
There, you simply leave the SMTP box blank in their setup screen.
Thanx!

reassigning to mscott@netscape.com
This is low priority for Communicator 5.0, so I think it'll end up getting
LATERed unless a mozilla participant implements it.

Moving all Mail/News Networking bugs to Mail/News Networking-Mail
This may re-open previously Verified bugs due to a Bugzilla bug...if so, I will
fix those bugs.

I suggest changing this to WONTFIX. XTND XMIT is nonstandard. A standards based
mail client should use authenticated SMTP, possibly over the standardized submit
protocol (bug 2679).

WONTFIX per comment.
