Used today's commercial build on linux 2000021008m14 1.Install and launch the browser. 2.If sidebar is open already, click on View->Sidebar to close it 3.Again click on View->Sidebar to open it 4.Now select File menu. 5. Observe tha thte menu does not appear completely and options at the bottom are completely wiped off and sidebar contents are seen.
Also seen on windows. Not seen on MAC.
Summary: Menus appear transparent if sidebar is open → [PP]Menus appear transparent if sidebar is open
this was okay in last nights builds from 5:00pm
Assignee: trudelle → pavlov
Keywords: beta1, regression
Priority: P3 → P2
Target Milestone: M14
Why was this marked critical severity? That is reserved for crash, data loss or severe leak. This makes menus unusable if you're exercising the sidebar. adding regression,beta1 keywords. reassigning to pavlov as p2 for M14.
changed to major
Severity: critical → major
Marking plus due to usability concern.

This is a z-index bug. If you start with the sidebar closed, and click on the view menu to show the sidebar, then the sidebar's frame view is in front of the view menu, but other menus are behind. If you start with the sidebar already open, then menu views are created after, and so are in front of the sidebar frame. This isn't a view manager bug, but a view creation order bug.
Pavlov has a CSS fix for this.

Re-opening, this is still happening but the behavior is slightly different. To reproduce: 1. Launch mozilla (with sidebar open) 2. Close sidebar with View - Sidebar menu item 3. Open sidebar with View - Sidebar menu item 4. Open File Menu Results: Note that the blue sidebar shows thru the file menu. You also can't select any menu item under Send Link. This is using 2/16 Linux Commercial build

I don't think this is still PDT+, but will let PDT team decide. Here's the bug: If you close *and* then open the sidebar using the view sidebar menu option, then the blue sidebar borders will bleed thru the menus when you pull them down, and some of the lower menu items will not be accessible. Of course, if there is an easy fix for this I'm all for it, but I would rather see pavlov spend his time improving his foosball skills.

Based on comments from paulmac, removing PDT+ to get a re-evaluation.

I am not seeing tis on today's linux mozilla build 2000022211m14. Will check with commercial build and comment.
