Dear Mozilla: I have written about this a dozen times at least, and there seems to be a fundamental lack of communication on this point. Let me make get right to the point. Where is the SORT option under Manage Bookmarks in Mozilla? I don't see any. Netscape 1.x, 2.x, 3.x and 4.x all have a Sort option under Edit Bookmarks, One can then sort AUTOMATICALLY (after adding the bookmark the normal way) either by Name, Location, Date or Size. This allowed you to automatically sort hundreds and thousands of URLS and folders of URLs AUTOMATICALLY by name (just as IE does it). Unfortunately, in Netscape 4.x, the Automatic Sorting by Name is defective (a well-known bug which has never been fixed). To see this in action, install Netscape 3.x and you will see what I mean. Without this sorting ability, Netscape's great bookmark program would have been worthless. And without it (i.e. the Automatic Sorting by Name), Netscape 4.x's bookmarks are essentially worthless. Why? Because you CAN'T USE THEM for serious Internet navigation. So, I would like to know where is the SORT option in Mozilla's Manage Bookmarks. This Sort option should allow the user to AUTOMATICALLY sort all bookmarks AND folders of bookmarks instantly and AUTOMATICALLY just as in every other browser under the sun (except for Netscape 4.x). If Mozilla cannot do this, then I strongly suggest that this function be added to it or it will make navigating the 'Net with Mozilla a hopeless and thankless task. If every browser, from the simplest right up to IE 5 can do this, certainly the state-of-the-art Mozilla (and the new Netscape 5.0 built on it) should be able to do this, too. Have you ever tried to organize (i.e. Sort) thousands of bookmarks MANUALLY? In my opinion, this is a critical issue. The ability to sort bookmarks by name is expected by every user. If Mozilla will not include this basic need, it will be severely crippled. So, please do what you can for us loyal Mozilla/Netscape users. What I cannot understand for the life of me is why this simple, common-sensical and critical issue has been allowed to fester for so long. You add thousands of bookmarks to your list. Then, you go to Manage Bookmarks and you expect to be able to instantly ARRANGE THEM, SORT THEM, especially ALPHABETICALLY. That's what Netscape did in 1.x, 2.x and 3.x and even in 4.x (except that the most critical of all automatic sortings, by Name, was defective and failed to work. Instead of fixing this stupid bug years ago, Netscape called it a feature. Give me a break! Now I see that Mozilla doesn't even have a Sort feature in Manage Bookmarks. How in the world can you offer Mozilla without an AUTOMATIC SORTING OF BOOKMARKS option. This is beyond belief. There is still time for you to correct this terrible oversight. Otherwise, I predict users will be outraged. Please do what is right. Please do what common sense and a state-of-the-art browser demands. If this is still not clear, feel free to call me at 504-866-3686 to discuss it. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Thank you.
