Overview Description: When the preferences menu is open, the browser window does not respond to clicking. This is not a prob, _but_ the browser window can be clicked to the foreground (prerences window in background) then you see only the browser wich will not respond untill you close (the invisible) preference window. Steps to Reproduce: 1)start mozilla 2)edit->preferences 3)click browser to foreground Actual Results: browser comes to foreground and does not respond. Expected Results: browser doesnt come to foreground when preferences menu is still open. Reproducibility: every thime Build Date & Platform Bug Found: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; N; Linux 2.2.14 i686; en-US) build: mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz 23-feb-2000 Additional Builds and Platforms Tested On: none Additional Information: none

the Prefs dialog is supposed to be modal...but yeah, this is unique on linux in that you can bring the browser window in focus (but not be able to do anything else than that). pavlov/german/shuang, is this expected behavior for linux modal dialogs? if so, then i guess this would be invalid...
reassign it to german to determin: we had long discussion while ago about the prefs. dialog and whether it should be modal. german, do you remember what was the decision?

I seem to recall that Alec Flett implemented an experimental non-modal version of the prefs dialog. There's a pref for it somewhere (a temporary one, hopefully :-/ ).
seems to work ok now on m16 ! result: browser comes to foreground and responds to mouseclicks.

this works for me too. the pref window is no longer modal. Marking bug fixed. Re-open if you still see a problem
