We would like to see messenger enhanced.
One of the key features I like about Netscape
Messenger is the ability to sort message by
thread.
When I forward a message, the subject becomes
[Fwd: ...] and it's not recognized as being part
of the original thread. Reply subjects get turned
into Re: ... and those _are_ recognized as part
of the original thread.

I think there's a bug here, but it's backwards from what's described. Once a
message is forwarded, it does become its own thread, and not a child of other
replies. However, I would have expected the replies to the forwarded message to
get threaded by Reference header with the forwarded message, not with the other
replies. David, what do you think?

The way Phil describes it is the way it should work, and in fact, is the way it
works for me. The reply to the forwarded message got threaded with the forwarded
message. Both reference threading and subject threading would conspire to make
this so.

So I guess this is invalid, since forwards are supposed to start their own
thread.
The customer is requesting the product be enhanced to allow forwarded messages
to be threaded with replys and the original. It could be by default or
optional. I would think it would make the product more usable to be able to
thread everything on the same subject together.

I understood the request, but I think that would be the wrong thing. Do any
other internet email clients behave like this? I doubt it, but I'd like to hear
if they do.
In addition, it's probably really hard. In order to thread the forward with the
original thread, we'd have to dig all the way into the attachment to find its
References header. Currently, we only use the headers of the outer message for
threading.
