In the attached mail message, View | Source is cut off at the first 8-bit
character (the ö in "Gödel"). The message itself displays "ö" instead of "ö").

I should also say that this happens regardless of whether the message is on an
IMAP server or in a local folder.

Hi Zach,
Hmm...this is weird...
Again, I tested with my Linux build from this morning and view source works
fine on messages with 8bit data.
Lisa: Maybe someone in QA can verify for me.

I'm seeing the following (Linux build from 2000-02-29):
Richard Zach's test msg, both subject and body, all display mostly fine in
Mailnews. Only the title of the top-level window shows the subject as
quoted-printable. Page Source shows the subject as Quoted-Printable and stops at
the first umlaut in the body. Similar results for Zach's post to .mailnews and
my own test msg.
Viewing the test msg in the browser by opening the attachment link in bugzilla
/in a new window/, the subject is OK, but the body shows the reported problems.
Page Source stops at the first umlaut in the subject.
Clicking directly on the attachment link (i.e. opening in the same window) in
the browser, the msg opens in Mailnews' msg pane like an attachment (i.e.
headers show up in the window for the body) and stops at the first umlaut in the
subject. Page source in Mailnews results in a "Software error" from bugzilla.
Paeg Source in the browser window (which still shows the bug) shows the msg
source and stops at the first umlaut.
Now, if that is no bug... :-)
REOPENing and changing COMPONENT to I18N.
I found another problem with "Page Source" during testing; filed bug #30459.

There are 3-4 bugs mentioned in this report. It would be best
to keep this bug as the View | Source problem.
1. Zach's "The message itself displays "ö" instead of "ö")" bug was
Bug 30299 whose fix was checked in this afternoon. The problem
should be gone tomorrow.
2. Ben's window tiltle showing up as un-decoded MIME string in QP
is Bug 29651, for which we lobbied for Beta 1 but does not
seem to be making it.
Back to the original View | Source bug, I tried zach's 2nd test
msg on 3/4/00 Win32 build and could not display any 8-bit
characters in the body.

Are you guys running on Win32? I crash deep in layout any time I try this on
Win32.

rhp, I am running and Zach also does IIRC. Momoi seems so work on WinNT (he
usually sends mail from there). Notice, that I'm using an old build (see above).

I noticed the menu "View | Source" becoming functional
in Messenger with 2/29 Win32 build. Since then there have been
5 more daily builds. On these published builds, I have not
been able to view raw Latin 1 8-bit body text with the Mail
"View | Page Source" menu. So, I don't believe the menu ever
worked with 8-bit body.

Hi Rick,
Sorry to keep doing this but this is another issues that is downstream from
where I handle the data. This all centers around how layout is treating the raw
RFC822 message that I am writing from libmime. Worst case, it should just be 8
bit ASCII, but it seems to be interpreting it as something else.

We are treating this as plain text now so it should be fixed.

Sorry for the delay in testing this, I tested this on my linux system using
build 2000-06-02 and I copied the paragraph out of Zach's message that
containded the 8bit character. I pasted the text in a plain text message
and mailed it to my test account and viewed the source. It was not cut off
after this character and the character is displayed correctly. Verified.
Richard, if you are still seeing this problem, please reopen.
