In the Linux viewer: drag the mouse along some text to select it -- notice it's fast (usually keeps up with the mouse). Now try the same thing in apprunner -- it lags way behind the mouse, and involves a lot more CPU (by a very informal measurement: my X server has a glitch where I see snow on the screen when the CPU is busy :-).

I suspect that part of the problem is that many minor changes (e.g. incremental changes to the document) causes the whole app to repaint, not just the part of the html view that needs to be reflowed. Since some of the widgets apprunner uses are very slow to repaint, this may be most of the performance difference right there.

Don, the issue was the apprunner performance problem (slow in apprunner, not in viewer), not anything inside the selection code; you had said to file apprunner performance bugs to you. That said, in the meantime someone seems to have fixed the problem -- at least on Linux, I don't notice selection slowness in apprunner any more compared to viewer. I think the bug has probably been fixed.

All these bugs were marked "New" when Jan transfered ownership of them to me. They were all resolved and need to be marked "Verified" again.

This was Verified on 03/13/99...resetting back to Verified...Bugzilla wacked out.
