Hey Morpheus,
This is probably related to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44622
perhaps a duplicate. The patch you've submitted solves the problem by
referencing the variable twice, which is enough to shut up the stricter
warnings. Does the patch in 44622 solve your crash as well?

I am maintaining a Bugzilla install that runs in Perl 5.6, and I can't duplicate
this since the patches in bug 44622 were checked in. I agree that it was the
same problem.
closing this bug as fixed.
