This bug imported from BugSplat, Netscape's internal bugsystem. It was known there as bug #342259 --- Build tested: PPC Oct 20.2 RTM 4.5 Nova build and PPC Jan 29 4.51 Nova build installed on PPC 8500/180, OS 8.5 Win32 Oct 20b RTM 4.5 Nova build and Win32 Feb 3 4.51 build installed on Compaq Deskpro (p133) NT 4.0 SP4 Problem: When reply to a message that has been quoted, it is possible lose the quoted (blue bar) attribute when editing the message. This occurs when you wish to add your reply in the middle of quoted text. You type in a few words then decide to backspace your reply (because you changed your mind) which causes your quoted text to become not quoted. Note: this problem also occurs in Composer. To see this behavior in Page Composer, you will need to copy some quoted text. This is NOT a regression. This problem occurs in PPC 4.08 Nova build also. Steps to reproduce problem: 0) Set your Mail Formatting preference to "Use the HTML editor to compose messages" 1) Set your Mail Message preference to "Automatically quote the original message when replying" 2) Open Messenger 3) Select a message that has a paragraph of text. 4) Reply to this message The HTML editor appears and the text is quoted with a blue vertical bar 5) In the quoted text, place your cursor/caret in the quoted text 6) Press Return/Enter Your cursor is at the the beginning of a new line 7) Type a line of text 8) At the quoted text located below this new line, place your cursor/cursor at the beginning of the quoted text then press the delete key. The paragraph of quoted text loses it quoted attribute 9) If the text is still quoted, type some characters, the quoted text should lose it quote (blue bar) ------- Additional Comments From pmock 02/08/99 14:18 ------- fyi, This problem also occur on the Oct 13 RTM 4.5 Solaris 2.5.1 build. ------- Additional Comments From leger 02/08/99 16:41 ------- Setting to TFV 4.51...but it happened in 4.5 too...so marek may punt :-) ------- Additional Comments From marek 02/12/99 16:11 ------- resolving as WONTFIX -- the bug is not highest priority given shortage of resources.
Not sure if this will be an issue in 5.0 since this code will be all rewritten. I wanted to be sure this scenario would be covered.

Sounds like an editor issue. I'd probably mark it invalid, but I'll reassign to kostello@netscape.com just in case.

as far as i can tell i now own this bug because i own mail/compose typing rules for the editor. as such, i'm setting it to m10, since that's when i'm going to be working on that stuff
As they say in Tap: These go to 11.
