I have installed Mozilla Seamonkey's installer build, in C:\program files\netscape. Prior to this install, I had M14, and I removed c:\mozilla and c:\users50. Now, when I try to install Comm 4.72, I get the following error while it searches for components, "Severe". The dialogue box only contains that word, with the standard red box with an X in it. Hitting Ok at the box does not let me proceed, and there is no disk activity (should be searching for components to update/migrate). I was wondering if I have done something wrong, between M14 and the nightly, because I have run both 4.72 and nightlies side by side before, without this problem.
Needs to be re-assigned to the module owner for Browser-General.

sean, Any idea what "severe X [ok] might mean in the 4.72 installer?

on the beta1 radar until we convince ourself this won't be a widespread problem or understand the possible work arounds or fixes.

Does Netscape search at all for command.com? I am missing this file, and haven't replaced it.
Okay, I'm going to implement the following: This might be the old lack of space in %TEMP% problem that Windows InstallShield installers have trouble with. Dump everything in there older than the last reboot, if no luck see http://www.ufaq.org/ section 1 # 1. -- Kevin Hecht, Netscape Champion College of Commerce and Finance, Villanova University khecht19@idt.net Kevin.Hecht@villanova.edu http://idt.net/~khecht19/ Obviously, if Kevin's suggestion works, I'm taking this bug off beta1, and it doesn't even belong here. So, I'm d/l Netscape Comm again and I'll try and let you know what happens. Thanks guys - Stephen
Okay, I deleted all TEMP files and rebooted, it's still not working. Bring in the Rabbi, I think my OS is possessed. :-) Should I leave this open?
I don't recognize where the message, "Setup is searching for installed components..." is coming from in the installer. Can you tell me the dialogs you stepped through, the buttons you clicked? Also can you tell me how much disk space is left (on the TEMP drive) after TEMP was cleaned up? Also where and how much disk space is left on your OS drive (ie. c:\windows). Can you also provide the url to the location of 4.72? I'd like to try to reproduce this on my system.

http://home.netscape.com/download/sd_cc32e472en.html I did a typical install, with the default settings for location (c:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator) and it searches for installed components right after you hit OK.
Marking PDT-, given that it's a HD-resource issue. We'll address this in beta2.

I still am unable to reproduce this problem. It does look like you have enough disk space though. Which OK button are you referring to? What is on the dialog that has the OK button in it? Please list the exact steps that you have taken to get to the error, beginning with double clicking on the c32e472.exe installer file.
Alright, major update as far as information about my install (nothing conclusive though): After double-clicking on the .EXE, there is a lot of disk thrashing (normal), and then Setup is Searching for Installed Components. Setup then asks me if I'd like to go ahead with the install, to which I respond NEXT. After this, I get a screen saying Typical or Custom, and I leave it on the default (typical) and select NEXT. After this, the Question box pops up (should be prompting for directory, but instead just showing c:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator (see attachment). After Verifying I get the "Severe" error. Hope this is detailed enough guys.
mass change to M16
Target Milestone: M15 → M16
Stephen, I think that the Communicator 4.72 installer that you have downloaded might be corrupted. The reason I think it's corrupted is because the screen shots and the info you have provided do not make sense from the code that was written. I do believe that you are running into the problems in this bug. If you could try downloading the Communicator installer again, that would be great.
Just close this bug, my OS was scrambled eggs at the time I filed this bug.
