When bug 339127 is fixed, we can add spell-checking to Chatzilla's input-field. Current, only textareas have spell-checking by default.
Severity: normal → enhancement
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Note: spell-checking currently works (2.0 branch and trunk), but you'll have to enable it manually first.

Unfortunately not; they've removed the spellchecking ability from chrome textboxes *entirely* (see bug 336799).
Depends on: 346787
I too would like to see this feature adapted for ChatZilla. Before Firefox 2 was released I was using SpellBound Development version and it was spell checking the ChatZilla field.

Here's my guess at a patch. I've really not much idea, but I'm excited about this bug :) Soo... if this gets checked in and people are using Minefield trunk with Chatzilla trunk, it should "just work" I'm guessing. If bug 346787 gets into 1.8.1.1 then Fx 2.0.0.1 will be a goer. However, installing dictionaries into Chatzilla on XULRunner is going to require install.rdf hacking. We can probably get word out to the l10n teams which own the dictionaries to add Chatzilla to their install.rdf.. but what should they specify as min and maxversion? Hrm, this is why it'd be cool to be able to edit the compatibility for all the dictionaries on AMO at once. I've no idea how SeaMonkey handles its dictionaries.

Does the spellchecker remember (over restarts) if you turn it off for the input box?
It doesn't seem to save such things for me, at least not for input boxes in html pages. But maybe some of the spellcheck people can give a more conclusive answer?
OK, so on my own build from 2006-11-21, it totally forgets whether I disabled spellcheck on a field. This is really annoying. So personally, I think we need a pref.

Patch with a pref and localization and update the box without restarting and... stuff. It works. Yay.
