Overview Description:
Extremely thin scrollbars are drawn when Mozilla automatically retrieves the
Adobe home page at startup. In any subsequent windows that are opened the problem
doesn't occur. Nor does it occur when the URL is entered into the URL bar
directly.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Ensure that Mozilla is configured to retrieve the Adobe home page.
1a) Launch Mozilla.
1b) Select Preferences from the Edit menu. The Preferences dialog will be
displayed.
1c) Click on the Navigator category to display the Navigator preferences panel.
1d) In the 'Navigator starts with' box ensure that the 'Home page' option is
selected. In the 'Home page' box enter 'http://www.adobe.com/'.
1e) Click OK to save the changes.
1f) Quit Mozilla.
2) Launch Mozilla.
Actual Results:
The scrollbars are extremely thin (3px wide) and the buttons are scaled in both
axes (3px x 3px).
Expected Results:
The scrollbars and scroll buttons are rendered at the appropriate size (14px
wide).
Build ID and Platform:
2000040408 on Mac OS 8.6.
Regression:
Does NOT occur on M14 milestone build or 2000032808, both on Mac OS 8.6.
Additional Builds and Platforms:
Does NOT occur on 2000040408 on Win NT 4.
Additional Information:
The problem can be reproduced on a number of the adobe.com pages and on the
adobe.co.uk site. I first noticed it on http://www.adobe.com/web/features/svg/
faq.html
It doesn't seem to occur on the following page http://www.adobe.com/livemotion

Thanks. I can see this on today's Mac opt comm build. (It's not immediately
apparent what's unique about the adobe content, other than their use of
every "trick" in the book -- flash, java, js, and the content is fine tuned
for each browser/version).

styling the scrollbars? over to evaughan for triage.

Hmm. Possibly, but I think it may have more to do with the overall layout --
i.e., the scrollbars are actually there and functional -- it's just that they
are positioned ~18px outside the window borders. (As soon as you click on the
three px visible portion, the scrollbars pop back into the correct position).
[Note: this is mac-only (but that may be a function of the content, not the
widget code)].

Another way to make this happen is to run viewer and then squeeze the window
width.

See also bug #35176 (which is likely a duplicate, but occurs when loading
www.mozilla.org, which is a very vanilla HTML page).

This is now happening for many home pages on initial start (mac only).

I'm not seeing this with current builds on mac/linux/win32 for www.adobe.com and
www.mozilla.org ast the startup pages. n.i.meara@open.ac.uk -- is this still a
problem for you? Marking WORKSFORME (speculatively).

John, I can verify that this behaviour isn't occuring on either site, and that
the scrollbars and buttons are the correct size, on build 2000050908 on Mac OS
8.6.
