Details
Penelope should allow the user to select any signature to be used on any message, and not associate a signature with a specific account by default. Should behave similarly to current Eudora.

I think Penelope SHOULD associate a signature with a specific account (personality) by default, but allow the user to select ANY OTHER signature to be used on any message as an override for that default. That's how MY Eudora works now, as is written in the help files for account (personality) setup:
"If you select a signature, Eudora automatically attaches that signature to the end of all outgoing messages sent from this personality. You can always change the signature in a particular outgoing message using the Signature drop-down in the composition window."
Then the user should ALSO be able to specify whether the signature is placed above or below the quoted reply, but I think there's already another bug that addresses this.
But speaking of signatures, the signature of this PROJECT is the name of the program, or "Penelope". But what connection is there between the name "Penelope" and the name "Eudora"? Where does the name "Penelope" come from? Personally I don't like it! Can the name "Eudora" not be kept because of copyright restrictions? If the name "Eudora" CAN be kept, I say let's keep it. But if not, then how about calling it something like "Welty", which at least follows logically from "Eudora" if nothing else?

Although there is an extension for this (Signature Switch https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/611/) this should be native in Penelope.

Our CEO definitely wants the signature line to appear after every response that he sends in an e-mail thread, rather than just showing up at the bottom. He frequently has several different people involved in lengthy e-mail threads, and it can be difficult to figure out who is sending what when scrolling through an e-mail after the fact.
I totally agree with comment 1. Also a review in tech web today of TB 2.0 beta1 mentioned this inability to use more than one signature as a weakness

I tend to agree with comment 1. We should be able to assign a default signature to a personality, but also be able to choose any other signature if we so wish.
This is very important to me, and one of the main features of Eudora that has kept me from straying from it.
I like to use different signatures that contain different sayings, depending on the subject of my e-mail, or my mood. I will also use different signatures for different business reasons, while continuing to use the same e-mail account.
I agree with all comments above esp no.3. I would like the signature to insert right after my reply so I can put my reply on top of the incoming msg. People dont like it at the bottom but I do it that was so the signature is right under my reply text

I installed this Signature Switch add-on to Eudora 8.0.0b1, used Notepad to make signatures (.txt) and pointed the Switch to them. It seems to work fine, the only BIG problem seems to be that when I insert any of the signatures in the message being typed, the signature appears "continuous" in one line, like "xxxx xxxx xxxx", when they are supposed to be in 3 separate lines:
xxxx
xxxx
xxxx
What could be the problem? Otherwise, this would be exactly what I (and many other here) need.

Personally I have a .html file with <br /> in it. It might auto convert to new lines for plaintext messages. Givet it a shot!
(If not, try to find the support for Signature Switch instead)

I think this is basically a duplicate of bug #73567 so marking it as such.
