Build 2000-04-28-09M16: NT4, reproduced the problem. When switching from one server panel to another, its contents disappeared. Build 2000-04-28-09M16: Linux 6.0 and Mac 8.6, problem does not occur.
I tried this on '98 today, and it happened to me once, but hasn't happened since. not sure if there's actually a problem or it was just a bad day in the life of mozilla.
yeah, I can't seem to reproduce this. it's really slow on linux sometimes, I don't know why... but the panels are coming up

Build 2000-05-16-09M16: Win95 Reopening, the problem still occurs only on Windows. I switched from an IMAP Server panel to a News Server panel. The Server Type and Server Name entries are blank for both accounts. The same is true if switching to a POP Server panel.

Build 2000-05-18-09M16: Win95 and NT4, appearing only on Windows. Reopening. 1. Switching between "Server" panels Most of the items remain except for the top region where the static text is removed. For instance: "Server Type: Server Name: User Name: " 2. Switching between "Copies & Folders" panels Most of the items remain except for the second checkbox area. The checkbox remains but the text following the checkbox is gone. Additional Information: - Linux, build 2000-05-18-08M16: Works as expected. - Mac, build 2000-05-18-09M16: Works as expected.

Assigning to evaughan per alecf's determination that it's a xul problem.

adding hyatt to the CC - this seems to be when you set the "value" attribute of a text node after it has already been layed out. This is NOT happening on any platform other than windows, so it's not a mis-use of the text widget.

Appears to be a problem on the Mac now. Build 2000-05-31-09M16: Win95 - Server Panel Server Type, Server Name and User Name are now displaying up to 3 characters followed by "..." (i.e. POP...). Tried switching to between various panels, forcing a redraw but the text is still truncated. -Copies and Folders Panel, text for the second checkbox is still blank. Build 2000-05-31-09M16: Mac 9.04 - Server Panel Server Type, Server Name and User Name are displaying up to 4 characters followed by "..." (i.e. IMAP...). Workaround: After switching from one server panel to another server panel, then all the text displays (i.e. IMAP Mail Server). Switching from the Identity Panel to the Server Panel does not work. Switching from the Copies and Folders to the Server Panel does not work. - Copies and Folders Panel, displays all entries as expected.

Build 2000-06-23-08M17: NT4 Only seeing a problem on Windows, when switching to various 'Copies and Folders' panels. The text for the second checkbox is still blank.
I'm seeing this on a debug build on windows as well.
So, at the end of this bug, this has narrowed to the situation where the text for <checkbox> will sometimes not be displayed when changing panels. That's the same bug as bug 44571 (in the preferences panels). marking duplicate. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 44571 ***
