Newsgroup subscribe dialog can't subscribe to a newsgroup without downloading the newsgroups list. It is also not possible to unsubscribe from a newsgroup that is not in the newsgroup list. (I successfully subscribed by typing news://server/newsgroup in navigator). Build: 2000050308 (and before)

Since bug 17795 (feature bug) for the subscribe dialog not completed yet, I am not testing on that yet, I will wait until bug 17795 completed to continue more tests. adding depends bug 17795 to this bug, so will reminding me to verify this bug once the feature completed.

yes, subscribe has lots of known problems, and is still barely working. expect to see it in much better shape on 5-16

marking this fixed. all your newsgroups should show up in the subscribe dialog now. (huang, to test this: try using subscribe against chupcabra.mcom.com with old builds, nothing would show up. now, all the newsgroups will show up.) note, unsubscribe still doesn't work.

I have tried on yesterday morning commercial build (this morning build not good yet)the newsgroup list did not display yet....I will try on today's noon Lunix build then.

By using WinNT noon commercial build/Internal news server 1) I did see the newsgroups list display on our internal news server instaed of typhoon news server 2) By selecting always use user name/password, it is also working on internal news server (poisonivy.mcom.com)

The discussion we are having here about empty newsgroup lists belongs to bug\ 38140 (fixed now, it seems). The bug is for subscribing/unsubscribing WITHOUT downloading such list (it is slow and a waste if I know the newsgroup name already). Perhaps mark it enhancement.

OK. If you are describing subscribing WITHOUT newsgroup list. I am thinking that this bug is fixed for a while ago from bug 11075. Marking as verified based on bug 11075 comments and today's 07-24-08/09-M17 verification for all the platforms (WinNT, Linux & Mac platforms)

Karen, what Marko was asking for is in fact a duplicate of 46448. He knew you can subscribe using the news://server/newsgroup form as in 11075, he described it in the first comment. The fact stays that once you have subscribed using the news://server/newsgroup form, you can not unsubscribe, but this could be handled using the method in 44834 (once 44834 will be solved).
