Build ID: 2000050608 A dropdown arrow should be added next to the textbox in Open Web Location... that, when clicked, would produce a list of the 10-15 last entered URL's accessed from that dialog. Similar to IE's combobox in File | Open... Would be easy to implement and convenient for the user who finds themselves constantly opening, for example, a local file deeply buried in subfolders.
this'd be nifty! don/radha, is this in the works, or a possibility in the near future?
Checked in last week.

reopening, Radha I think this bug refers to having a url dropdown for the textfield in the Open Web Location Dialog box, not the location field in the nav toolbar(which you've already done). I too think this would be a nifty idea. Who owns that dialog? cc'ing law, in hopes that it is he.

clarified summary :-)

Bug 38865 suggests autocomplete for this list, which I think is a good idea as well.

In addition to the dropdown arrow and auto populate feature mentioned. It would be real nice if the cursor was auto magically placed in the open location box. Currently, you have to move the mouse pointer and click before typing in a url.
I think you mean the caret [i.e. have the textfield have focus upon dialog loading]. moving the cursor for the user would be confusing
Hm, actually, the Open Web Location history list and the URL bar history list in IE are one and the same. Should we do that as well?

I'm thinking the layout of the Open Address dialog should be reasonably consistent with the layout of the XP filepicker for Open File (bug 58336). (On Linux we may even be able to merge the two dialogs somehow, which would be nice, but I haven't figured out quite how to do that yet.) That means something like this: +-------------------------------------------------+ | Open Address :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::| +-------------------------------------------------+ | Enter the address you would like |B | |R | | | Mozilla to open. |___v| |___v| | | ___________________________________ | | _Address: [|__________________________________] | | | | ( Cancel ) (( Open )) | +-------------------------------------------------+ `B' is a menu of your bookmarks (icon of bookmarks folder), and `R' is a menu of your recently-typed URLs (icon of clock with overlaid page proxy).
Priority: P2 → P3
taking, marking dependency. This is fixed by the patch in 43189.
