Just an idea, what about showing a graphical traceroute while waiting for enough data to be able to display something. Like one can see in movies, a blip moving along lines connecting different places on a world map. I understand that this is something that's very difficult to do good, but shouldn't it be cool? ;-) What's needed: * Traceroute functionality (requires root/administrator priveligies on most OS:es I think) * A world map * A database connecting enough routers with a physical location ("enough" is the same as "many") * A slower browser making time for the traceroute to finsh

This is an interesting idea, but it would seem to be very difficult to implement. A traceroute doesn't require root/administrator privledges, but the data returned is not always very useful. Many times it is just an ip address. Other times it is not very clear from the hostname where the machine is located. This would probably have to use the ARIN database to look up who was assigned that ip and where they were located.

Someone already made a java app that does this. We might be able to integrate it. I could imagine making this a sidebar component. Sidebar really needs autohide+floating support (so that it doesn't cause a reflow)
