Build 2000-05-16-09M16: Win95
Also applies to Linux and Mac
Overview: When only a News Server is selected (i.e. news.mozilla.org) in the
folder pane, the Mail Toolbar button should:
1. Disable
a. Get Msg (jglick: In this case would Get Msg only get Mail messages? If so
then this should be disabled?)
b. Reply (already disabled)
c. Reply All (already disabled)
d. Forward (already disabled)
e. File
f. Print
g. Mark
2. Enable
a. New Msg (already enabled)
b. Next (Will it be possible to traverse to the Next newsgroup? If so then this
button is already enabled)
I believe "Mark" will not be on the Toolbar. In 4.x "Delete" was replaced by
"Mark" for News. Since Mark is not generally a frequently used button it really
doesn't belong on the Toolbar.
"Stop" should be enabled when there is activity that can be stopped.
Shouldn't "New Msg" be disabled? You can't create a new news posting if you
don't know what newgroup it should be posted to. This is how it works in 4.x.
"Get Msg". I guess this would depend on how the user has their "Get Messages
button" prefs set. See Prefs spec. If they have Get Msg set to only get mail
for the currently selected account, it would be disabled in this case. This is
the default setting. But if they change the default so that Get Msg gets mail
for the currently selected account plus all accounts they are currently logged
into, then it would be enabled in this case.

Can the spec be updated so that the "Mark" button is removed from the Mail
Toolbar?
I think the "New Msg" button should always be enabled because:
- Even with the news server selected, at anytime I may want to address an email
to someone or post a message to a newsgroup that I'm not subscribed to. This is
how the 4.x Linux versions works. The 4.x Windows version disabled the button.
- if the browser is open, you are able to select File|New|Message and you don't
necessarily have a mail or news connection. This is true for the 4.x Windows and
Linux versions.
I will remove the "Mark" button.
Your argument about always enabling "New Msg" sounds good to me! It would open a
Mail message not address to any newsgroup (or person).

Your last statement regarding "New Msg" sounds good. :)

nominating as nsbeta3 polish
per mail triage: remove nsbeta3 nomination and move to future milestone. For
the short term, we will combine items here into three bugs (in 3pane) to address
for nsbetat3: 1. delete, change text, move menuitems; 2. enable/disable and
text changes on context (dynamic); 3. accelerator keys to work.
When this bug gets revisited after the first release, we'll need to see what
items remaining that need to be addressed.

Marking WORKSFORME. All toolbar buttons disabled, except "Compose" when a news
server is selected.
"Next" jumps to next unread message by default so it is disabled instead of
jumping to next news group (this can be a separate rfe bug, nbaca, if you want
this functionality).
