inbox keeps saying I have messages left

I have read all the messages in my InBox but it still displays "inbox" in bold
saying there are unread messages. If I close and restart mozilla it's still
there. I have several pop accounts, now two of them won't go below two unread
messages. This seems to appear randomly. It first happened when I was playing
with mail filtering, but it seems to have happened again (one more increment)
during normal use.

I have the same problem, due to some corrupted files. Deleting these will help
(deleting user50 dir will do it surely :). Confirming bug.
Reporter,do you recall what you were doing when the miscount appeared and which
build were you using?
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
you probably need to delete the *.msf file that corresponds with your mail
folder. This file is located in the users50 directory. You don't need to delete
the entire directory.
The key would be to find out what the cause of this is.

Timothée, if you delete your .msf files, does this go away? Lisa, you were
having similar message count problems in the past. Are you still having them?
If this can't be reproduced I'd say we should mark this WORKSFORME until we know
this is still happening. I haven't had message count problems in a while.

sorry guys, I'm no longer testing the mail/news component. I switched to it for
a while as my main email client but I went back to Eudora. It's just not stable
enough yet. If I can manage to reproduce or understand when this happens I'll
let you know.
david - mark this wfm if you'd like. I have not had any msg count problems in a
while.

it's still there in M17
I started using the mozilla mail client this morning and now I have two accounts
that keep saying I have two unread messages and I can't see them anywhere in
InBox. Maybe it's related to the settings I use for these POP3 servers:
check for new messages
automatically download any new message
leave messages on server
delete messages on server when deleted locally
I would be willing to look more into the problem but I have no idea where to
start from.

It happens a lot less now that mail-news is more stable. The only way it happens
actually is if mozilla crashes while it's downloading mail or something. There
must be a state where the mail is not actually there but the count is updated
already or something. Anyway removing the .msf always does the trick but it's
not a solution for the end user.
