These comments came from bug #3514 (bug was closed because the original problem was fixed): There is some buggy behavior on Mac when you select items. On other platforms, when I click once, one category is deselected and one category is selected. I have to double-click to open up the category. Quirky behavior on Mac: (1) Sometimes a single click opens the category and cometimes a double-click opens it (not consistent) (2) When the category is opened, the previous category gets highlighted. This doesn't happen if I am double-clicking to open the category. It only happens when I single click and the category opens. Opening this bug for Mac specific behavior. Tested using 4/2 build. Assigned component to XUL - please change if not correct.
Summary: [PP]Quirky behavior on Mac with the sidebar.xul file → [PP]Quirky behavior on Mac with the sidebar.xul file
Assignee: trudelle → hyatt
Target Milestone: M4
I'm assuming that this problem is in the tree view, as described in the original bug report. Assigning to hyatt as p3 for m4
Any progress on this?
I have been unable to get a stable Mac build to verify. I'm crashing in the bookmarks data source consistently on my Mac.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
I need to work on someone's Mac if I'm going to track this down. I can't get my Mac build to work, and nobody else seems to know what the problem is with my build. It would be helpful to know whether or not this bug still exists.
Target Milestone: M4 → M5
I don't view this as an M4 bug in any case. Moving to M5.

looking at 1999040717 (Mac and WinNT) and 1999040808 on Linux i no longer see any of said quirky behavior. On all platforms it always took me two click to open/close a category.
This bug was Mac specific. I re-tested using 4/8 build and quirky behavior as described in 4/2 comments still exists.
yeah okay, I guess I wasn't diligent enough about clicking. I can now repro this for Mac 1999040818. My recipe: pick two categories next to each other say 'search' and 'Business' double-click to open one then start single-clicking between the two category heads, it should start with the 'quirky' behavior. What I saw is that single-clicking on a closed category would cause the previously selected open category to close.
chrisd, could you put a Release Note wording in Bug 4516. Thanks!
fyi, you get the same, if not moreso behavior in the 'manage bookmarks' window. still Mac only.
Release note wording added to bug #4516.

Presumably fixed by my new tree widget checkin.
Whiteboard: 07-JULY cannot verify b/c selection in the sidepanel does not work at all right now
Status: RESOLVED → REOPENED
Maybe there is another bug for this but selection in the sidepanel is horked on the Mac. Selecting an item within 'Related links' doesn't deselecting the parent (in this case 'related links') and selecting diferent items results in unintentional double-clicks i.e. you surf to a page.
