Details

These radio buttons act more like checkboxes -- i.e. when you select one, the others don't clear themselves. If you select "Manual Proxy", both the "Manual Proxy" radio button and the "Direct Connection" radio button stay selected.
This is an UI implementation problem, not a design bug. Reassign it to Don or his team.
