George, is Sun working on Unix printing I18N? Would you reassign this bug to the relevant person? Thanks.

Hi Erik: yep, we're working on I18N printing. I'll take a look and see if we can assign this to somebody at Sun.
Re-assigning this bug to Kumar; thank you, Kumar, for taking it on.

Bob and Frank, note that Unix printing I18N is now assigned to Kumar at Sun. Thank you, Kumar!

Here is the latest status as I understand it. Please provide corrections. Code checked-in. Works on Solaris. Need review of build changes. Problems with Linux version of xprint library for CJK printing. Sun is trying to help provide fixes for Linux xprint. Sun is waiting for review of patches to printing pref UI.
Changed summary from Linux: internationalize printing to Unix: xprint printing This bug is specifically about adding xprint support which is not just for international. And this feature is not just for Linux but for any Unix implementation which provides xprint support.
Summary: Linux: internationalize printing → Unix: xprint printing
Whiteboard: works on Solaris. CJK problem on Linux.
momoi-san, please put a link to the readme in this bug report for now. thx.
This bug is assigned to rkumar@eng.sun.com - but when I try to reach him (her!?) I'll get the following error: -- snip -- The original message was received at Sun, 28 Jan 2001 20:32:15 -0800 (PST) from hermes.hrz.uni-giessen.de [134.176.2.15] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <rkumar@eng.sun.com> ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to engmail2.eng.sun.com.: >>> RCPT To:<rkumar@eng.sun.com> NOTIFY=SUCCESS,FAILURE ORCPT=rfc822;rkumar@eng.sun.com <<< 550 <rkumar@eng.sun.com>... User unknown 550 <rkumar@eng.sun.com>... User unknown -- snip -- Did Kumar Rethi left Sun ? Who will overtake his bugs ?
Q: Should I add important bugs into the "Bug 6312 depends on" field (I have some ugly ones (like bug 68779) in mind...) Reassigning to katakai@japan.sun.com based on comments in bug 67085. Changing "component" from "Layout" to "Printing: Xprint".
Assignee: rkumar → katakai
Status: ASSIGNED → NEW
Component: Layout → Printing: XPrint
katakai: Xprint module is now fully functional except that we cannot get/set some printer attributes like paper size etc. - I filed seperate bugs for that... Wanna close this one or should we keep this one open (and if yes - why ?) ?
