Details

build id: 1999051408 platform: windows nt this problem happens sporadically. i am not certain of a sure-fire method to reproduce it. from time to time, it is possible to have the mouse cursor over a menu item (say, bookmarks: macintosh resources: macintouch) and the item will not be highlighted - that is, it is the same color as all of the other menu items. this seems to happen one menu at a time - that is, if you select bookmarks | macintosh resources and then pass the mouse up and down the list, nothing will be highlighted.
Summary: menu itmes can be selected without highlighting → menu items can be selected without highlighting
this sounds like a menu widget bug; what do you think Mike?
Per a request from Selection and Search component eng (mjudge) and qa (elig), moving all "Selection and Search" bugs to new "Selection" component. Original "Selection and Search" component will be retired.
Component: Selection → XP Toolkit/Widgets
QA Contact: claudius → phillip
[Reassigning to XP Toolkit/Widgets, as this is a _menu_ selection bug.]
Assignee: mjudge → saari
[Reassigning to saari. For the record, I haven't ever seen this. cpratt, have you seen this in any recent builds?]
I see this on a daily basis on both NT and Windows 98; it's irksome.
Still happening on 19990701xx M8 builds, and still troublesome. cc'ing macquiddy, who's also having trouble with this.
OS: Windows NT → All

Changing platforms to all (it's also being seen on Mac OS).

actually, this bug looks like a dup of 5927 (which has a fairly detailed description of how to reproduce it). The most recent problem I'm seeing is a Mac-specific problem with menus that requires a re-start to re-enable 'dead' menus. I will open a new bug when I figure out how/if to reproduce. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 5927 ***

Kudos to paulmac for finding that other bug. I think he's right. Marking verified.
