Verah, as it gets closer to ship and I have confirmed all the mail functionality, I'll give you hardcopy of the M5 release notes which I'll mark up. I have a bunch of bugs to release note and I'll include here shortly.

from http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6485: "When you select an unread message with the message pane collapsed, the message still gets marked as read." Please add this to the mail section of your release notes. This applies to all platforms.

from http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6655: "If news.mozilla.org is set up as your news host, you can post messages to newsgroups on this host. Posting to newsgroups on other news hosts is not implemented yet." Pls put into the mail/news section of the release notes. This affects all platforms.

from http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6670: "Sorting affects ability to perform operations on messages. If you sort your messages first, operations on messages will possibly not work. This includes deleting, copying, and marking messages read, and other operations that involve the affected code area." Please put this into the mail section of the release notes. This affects all platforms.

Profiles related issues ------------------------- All the information regarding profiles is stored in the registry file. When you check out a new seamonkey build, the most important thing is make sure you delete the following before you install/build and run the new executable. --------------------------------------------------------- Windows mozregistry.dat ( c:\winnt or c:\windows or equivalent), --------------------------------------------------------- Mac Mozilla Registry (System Folder:Preferences), --------------------------------------------------------- Linux registry (~/.mozilla/) --------------------------------------------------------- Not deleting these might cause inconsistencies. Starting appRunner for the first time, brings up the CreateProfile Wizard. At the end of the wizard, upon clicking Finish, appRunner seems to crash. This is due to bug 6005 (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6005) and has no impact on the create profile wizard. However, your profile will be created and subsequent use of Seamonkey will behave normally. The new feature added this time is ProfileManager. Profile Manager can be brought up using comandline argument : -ProfileManager. This brings up the profile manager user interface which supports creation of a new profile, deletion and renaming of existing profiles. Once you are done with any of the tasks you can click on Exit to quit the profile manager. This is also due to bug 6005. (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6005) In M7, this will have a Start Communicator button on it. This will allow the user start appRunner with a selected profile.

To add onto what gayatrib says, you must copy your prefs50.js file (if you've previously used Messenger and have all your mail preferences set) to the location where your new profile gets created (after you use the Profile Manager).

Add to my comments dated: 05/20/99 17:08 "The mail server, user name, and other mail related preferences that you set up through the Create Profile Wizard are not reflected back in any prefs50.js file. To use mail, you must manually set up your prefs50.js file according to http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/smoketest.html and you must copy your prefs50.js file to the location where your new profile gets created (after you use the Profile Manager). If you have previously used Messenger and have all your mail preferences set, just copy the prefs50.js to the profile location/directory."

writing a reminder to get info from waterson on how to turn off notifications if a user should choose to do this.

Bug 6892. The browser window keeps popping up to the front! You can suppresss this problem by turning off notifications. 1. From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7010 "Due to optimizing performance in displaying headers (bug 7002), Messenger will temporarily not have the message counts show up in the folder pane when parsing a mailbox folder and don't get increased when copying or getting new mail."

Oops. To finish my last comments. Pls add the following to the rest of the text in my previous comment: "This also applies to News messages. IMAP mail may not be affected." Pls place this in the mail/news section for all platforms.

This does not affect the message's state if you select an unread message to read it. This is a temporary problem and will be addressed in the next release."

As a workaround, you can view the dates of messages in the message pane after you've selected the message." Note: This is for the mail/news section and applies ONLY to the MAC.

From: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6996 "Accessing the menu item Edit | Account Manager will result in a crash. This will be fixed in the next release." Place this in the known bugs section for mail/news. This ONLY applies to Mac platform.

From http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6975: "When you do a move messages, the header won't be copied into the destination folder. The message gets copied, but you won't be able to see the results until you start up Messenger/Apprunner the next time." Pls add this to the mail section. This is a MAC ONLY bug.

http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6914 "After you send a message, the compose window does not close automatically. We suggest that you close the compose window after you send a message. Otherwise, you may get a crash on subsequent sends using the same compose window."
