Was the pref originally misnamed in the security.js file? and that was the bug? Should this effect the preferences UI? (The enable java checkbox is unchecked, while java is indeed active and running.) Should adding user_pref("security.enable_java", false) to the prefs.js file cause java to be disabled?
Reopening. Unchecking the Enable Java checkbox creates in the prefs.js file "user_pref("advanced.java.allow", false); not "securtity.enable_java".
