In 4.x, we had this pref "news.max_articles". If there were ever more that "news.max_articles" to dowload, it would prompt the user and ask the what to do. Download them all, download a few, etc. We *really* need this in 5.0, because with out it, we'll download all the messages and if the group has thousands, 5.0 becomes useless because having thousands of messages in the thread pane. with out this, the only newsgroups you can subscribe to are ones with 100 messages at the most. that's pretty sad.
