I turned on NU_CACHE in mozilla/config/mac/DefinesMozilla.h in my local tree. The result seems to be that the images are no longer cached at all. For instance with Viewer, Sample #2 used to be a bit slow to display the Raptor image the first time but when clicking Back and Forward, the image was displayed all at once and much faster. Now with NU_CACHE turned on, it looks like it reads the image from disk everytime.

Gagan owns NU_CACHE. If you need pam to help you out with things like these, let us know. My sense was that NU_CACHE wont be turned on until after Necko lands.
